Task 1

Tomorrow our first assignment for EDN113 - Living and Learning with Technology is due!

To be honest, I really enjoyed this task as it allowed us to be more hands on with our learning and I was able to go and do the research myself.

Today I touched up on my website, which I created using weebly. I also completed my digital poster on Cyber Bullying, which I created using Piktochart. This wesbite was great as it was easy to use and provided great templates to design my poster with!

Of course I started the poster the day before it was due, and yes, it was the thing I was most confused about. The first thing I did today was go straight to the Task 1 forum, where people in my unit had posted questions about the task. I clicked on a few peoples websites and posters and they really helped me to decide what I was even going to do and how I was going to go about it. I also went to the CyberSmart Website, where it gave me some information about how to use the internet and social networking.

I decided to create my digital poster on Cyber Bullying as I thought it was an issue that occurs a lot in schools. I feel as thought it is my job as a future teacher and also when I become a teacher to inform children of the dangers of using the internet and doing things online if I am the one responsible for teaching the children these new forms of technology. My digital poster displays some general information of what Cyber Bullying is, what it looks like and how it can make people feel, as well as providing some statistics and ways to prevent Cyber Bullying. I really enjoyed creating this poster as I feel I have learned much more as the topic by simply researching it and doing a fun task on it!

I found a general statistic graph on Cyber Bullying which also helped in the creation of my digital poster.

Here is a picture of my digital poster.

When I was finished my digital poster, I sent it to a friend I had met in my lecture and she gave me some great feedback, what to change and what she thought was great! It is really helpful having friends in your courses. She is doing Early Childhood and Primary Teaching also so we are able to help each other with our work in other units as well as EDN113

This course has really helped me regarding using the internet. Before I started this unit I had no clue where to even look on the Murdoch website to get to the online section of the unit... But today, you'll find me searching everywhere, even for other units, I make sure I have not missed out on any information I can access.

I'm having great fun in this unit, and I'm pleased at how it has all gone so far.

Thanks for reading!

My Second Blog

Its already study break week! Wow, I cannot believe how quickly these first 3 weeks have gone. One more week until my first assignment for EDN113 is due and I am quite nervous!

The lecture and workshops in week 3 were very helpful as they were basically made around the assignment. The lecture discussed digital citizenship, which is the topic for our first assignment. I found it very interesting that you could claim your name online so that no one else could use it; you can even do it on Facebook! Lecture 3 also gave me some very good tips on blogging, the main ones I've taken away from it are to keep my personal life personal and also once something is posted it is always posted so I must be careful of what I write online and make sure it is done in a professional manner. Lecture 3 also displayed a lot of information about Cyber Bullying, which I think I am going to do my Digital Poster on.

I've come to really love my website! Once i'm on it and I have started editing it I can't seem to stop. I never really thought that this unit would be interesting but it has somehow really engaged me! I love learning new things and once I understand them it is such a great feeling, and I think that is what has happened here, this unit actually makes me excited to learn and excited for the future.

So I created my website originally through Wix and then decided that it was to difficult to navigate my way through it so I decided to check out some other sites to create my website on. I found the list of websites on the Technology Toolbox for Educators. After going through all the given website creator tools I decided to go with weebly and I think it is great! There was a much bigger variety in the website backgrounds and templates and it was much easier to use so I was quite pleased.

The last thing I have to do for task 1 is create the digital poster. I found a really great example on the topic which I want to focus on (cyber bullying) here

I think this poster is a great example and it has given me a few ideas on how to go about my digital poster.

So there is my second blog post! Don't forget, any feedback would be great!

Thanks for reading :)

My Very First Blog!

Wow. Where to start...

Well I guess I should start with my name and what the purpose of this blog actually is. So, hi, i'm Lauren Walker and I am currently starting the Early Childhood and Primary Degree at Murdoch University. The purpose of this blog is to interact with my peers as well as share my own thoughts and ideas in the EDN113 - Living and Learning with Technology Unit. This blog is a great way to reflect on my work and involvement throughout the duration of the course.

I honestly had no idea how to start a blog. When I heard that one of the tasks for the semester was to create a blog I was like, what? How on earth am I supposed to do that? I hope we don't have to pay to create one! But luckily, after a bit of researching I discovered that wasn't the case. Creating a blog is free!

This video clip was very good in outlining the basics of a blog and was very simple to understand. I recommend it to anyone who is also feeling abit lost about blogging!

I spent this first week doing a bit of research on blogs, discovering more and more tools to create your own, so things have started to become a bit clearer to me. Although, I have to admit, I am still a bit scared of blogging; what if I use the wrong tool and it turns out completely different to everyone's? What do I even write in a blog? Or what if i'm just so boring that my blog is terrible!

In the end, I chose to toughen up and start up my blog using Blogger. We were given some great blog guidelines to really help us out on what to put in our blogs as well.

This unit (EDN113) has already challenged me. Give me something like facebook and I will have no trouble navigating myself around it, but since the very first lecture and workshop, I have been introduced to many new tools and concepts so it has definitely taken some time to get used to. I've spent the last week searching around the LMS and reading up on our assignments and tasks for the week. The Technology Toolbox for Educators was very useful in providing me with the information that I needed to know in order to get my blog up and running. I have also discovered how to re-watch my lectures on the student ECHO! It is amazing how much you can do on the internet and I am very excited to see what I can do online by the end of this unit.

Well, there we have it. My very first blog! I hope you enjoy reading it, and please do not hesitate to leave comments and feedback, anything would be very helpful.
